Draught Proofing & Weather Sealing Adelaide

Stop paying to heat and cool the outdoors.

Gaps around doors, windows, vents and skirting let warm air escape in winter and hot air pour in during summer, even with the heater or air conditioner running. Draught proofing is one of the cheapest, quickest upgrades for a more comfortable home and lower energy bills.

As home energy assessors, we don't just seal the obvious gaps. We find where your house is actually leaking, using a thermal camera where it helps, then seal what makes the biggest difference.

What we seal

  • External doors (from $230 per door). We fit perimeter seals and door bottom seals to stop air coming in around the frame and under the door.
  • Windows (quoted per window). We seal openable windows where the sash meets the frame. The price depends on the window size and the product used.
  • Wall vents (from $40 per vent). We seal old, permanently open wall vents that no longer need to be there.
  • Cornice and skirting gaps (quoted). We seal the gaps where walls meet ceilings and floors. The price depends on the length and size of the gaps.

How it works

  1. Send us a few photos of the doors, windows or gaps you're worried about, using our enquiry form or by email to hello@adelaidehomeenergyassessors.com.au.
  2. We'll quote and book a time. For bigger jobs we may suggest a quick visit first.
  3. We seal the draughts, using quality products suited to your home.
  4. We check the result and point out anything else worth doing.

Why get an energy assessor to do it?

  • We know where to look. Draughts often come from places you wouldn't expect. A thermal camera shows us where air is leaking so nothing gets missed.
  • We know what not to seal. Some ventilation is there for a reason (see below).
  • We see the whole picture. If insulation, windows or heating are a bigger problem than draughts, we'll tell you, so your money goes where it makes the most difference.

Safety: some ventilation needs to stay

Not every gap should be sealed. Homes with unflued gas heaters, open-flued gas appliances or wood heaters need fixed ventilation for safe operation. Bathrooms, laundries and kitchens also need airflow to manage moisture and prevent mould. We check for these before we seal anything, and we'll explain what we're leaving open and why.

Who we help

We work across metropolitan Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills. That includes Stirling, Aldgate, Crafers, Mount Barker, Hahndorf and surrounding areas, where cold winters make draughts especially noticeable. We seal all types of homes, from older villas, cottages and stone homes to brick, weatherboard and newer builds.

Frequently asked questions

How much does draught proofing cost?

Sealing a wall vent starts from $40, and a door perimeter from $230. Windows and cornice or skirting gaps are quoted to the job. Send us photos for a quote.

Is draught proofing worth it?

For most older homes, yes. It's low cost and quick, and you feel the difference straight away in comfort. It also helps your heater and air conditioner work less.

Can I do it myself?

Some jobs, like stick-on seals and door snakes, are fine to DIY. Gaps that are hard to find, poorly fitting doors, and anything near gas appliances are best left to someone who can check them properly.

Will sealing my house make it stuffy?

Sealing uncontrolled draughts means you choose when fresh air comes in, for example by opening windows on mild days and running exhaust fans. We'll give you simple tips for keeping air fresh.

Do you seal all types of homes?

Yes. We work on all types of homes, including stone, brick, weatherboard, villas, units and newer builds.
